My deepest prayers to the police officers and other emergency staff in New Orleans (law enforcement, military and medical staff).
I am contacting my local police to see if there is any fundraising for the police in New Orleans. Our local firefighters had a similair fundraisers for the brave firefighters of New York during 9/11. I am hoping to support a similar effort for the police officers during this tragedy.
The people of Vancouver, Canada, are praying for you and practical efforts of our governments, companies, non-profit groups and individuals are being directed to New Orleans.
Peace be with all of you.

To all of our brothers and sisters in the New Orleans Police Department:
Our own police union in Honolulu, Hawaii, is trying to put together a contingent of Honolulu officers to make the trip out there to help. If our efforts are successful, 3000 miles of water and 1500 miles of land WILL NOT prevent us from coming to help!! We remember VERY WELL, how the nation helped when Hurricane Iniki tore up Hawaii in 1992. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. God Bless You All!!
"This is my shield. I bare it before me into battle, but it is not my own. It protects the brother on my left. It protects my city. I will never let my brother out of its shadow, nor my city from its shelter. I will die with my shield before me, facing the enemy........"

My heart goes out to every one in the Gulf Coast area, but our men and women in blue have a very tough job ahead of them...My son is a police officer and has taught me that these people are resilient, strong, willing and able, but are also human and feel the pain of the people. Please know you are all in my prayers and thoughts, all that you do, all that you have done, and all that you will do. You are all to be commended!!! I will email everyone in my address book to ask for assistance with some financial relief for your department as I know you are all weary and heartbroken. Thank you for your devotion and service - L. Having been raised in the company of officers and strong supportive families alike, I got to understand the similarities. I think everyday about the public servants that are continuing the hard work everyday: not only in greater New Orleans but in the Gulf Coast region. They are the ones who stay when things get tough. They are the ones who put themselves in harms way. Now it's time for us as civilians to put ourselves in harms way and see that we help rebuild their lives.
